Jaganathan, a social activist, belongs to Paramathi Kuppam village in Karur district. He took action to close the stone quarry which was operating illegally without permission. He was killed by a truck a few days ago due to this hostility. K. Paramathi police arrested 3 people including the quarry owner Selvakumar on a case of murder.

மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள குவாரிகளில் விதிமீறல் உள்ளதா என சமூகச் செயற்பாட்டாளா்கள் குழுவினா் சனிக்கிழமை ஆய்வு செய்தோம். இதில் ஏராளமா ன கல்குவாரிகளில் 50 மீட்டா் ஆழத்துக்கு மேல் கல் வெட்டியெடுக்கப்படுகிறது.
குவாரிகளில் விதிமுறை ள் மீறப்படுவதால் சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதிக்கப்படும் நிலை உருவாகியுள்ளது.

Justice Aruna Jagadeesan reportedly notes, “There is no material on record to show that it was only to deal with a militant crowd of protesters that the opening of fire was resorted to.”
The 100-day-old civil protest ended in unprecedented violence and led to open firing by police which resulted in the death of 14 people in total, including 17-year-old Snowlyn Jackson.
