Lois Sofia, the research scholar who was arrested and subsequently released on bail for raising slogans against the BJP in the presence of the party’s State unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan, filed a petition before a magistrate’s court here on Thursday, seeking return of her passport seized by the police.
TIRUVANNAMALAI: Weeks after a 56-year-old hearing-impaired tribal man was killed in an ‘encounter’ at Gollapalli forest area in Andhra Pradesh for his alleged involvement in red sanders smuggling, his body reached Tiruvannamalai on Monday night after a second postmortem. However, blaming the district administration’s apathy to arrange for a hearse, villagers had to carry the body on their shoulders for nearly 12km from the foothills to Kanamalai village.
Madurai: Chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami should press for the re-postmortem of C Kamaraj, 58, a person with hearing impairment from Kanamalai village in Polur Taluk, Tiruvannamalai district. He was killed in the encounter in Andhra Pradesh forests, while he and a few others were allegedly smuggling red sanders on Saturday.
The body of C. Kamaraj, the woodcutter who was reportedly killed in an encounter by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department officials in Kadapa district early this month on suspicion of being a red sanders smuggler, was tied to poles and carried for five kilometres to his house in Jawadu Hills, here on Tuesday morning.
