The suo motu proceedings had been initiated by taking cognisance of a letter sent by advocate Henri Tiphagne on November 12, 2019.
Madurai: Madras high court on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction at the CB-CID investigation into the 2019 Avaniyapuram custodial death case in Madurai district. A division bench of acting chief justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana observed that the custodial death of the youth happened on October 25, 2019. An FIR was registered but investigation was not completed even after two years.

Madurai: The Madras high court on Monday asked the CB-CID to take steps to complete the investigation into the Avaniyapuram custodial death case by January 2022.
A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and justice M Duraiswamy asked the agency to expedite the investigation, after the state informed the court that the CB-CID probe was still underway in this case.
மதுரையில் விசாரணைக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்ட இளைஞர் மரணமடைந்த வழக்கின் விசாரணை சிபிசிஐடிக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டிருப்பதாக உயர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் அரசு சார்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
மதுரை சோலையழகுபுரத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர் முத்துக்கருப்பன் மகன் பாலமுருகன். இவரை கடத்தல் வழக்கு விசாரணைக்காக அவனியாபுரம் போலீஸார் கடந்த 2019-ல் காவல் நிலையத்துக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றனர். பின்னர் பாலமுருகன் மர்மமான முறையில் இறந்தார்.
Madurai: Madras high court on Saturday sought response from four people allegedly responsible for withdrawal of a case filedby a man in connection with the custodial death of his son at Avaniyapuram police station in Madurai in 2019. A division benchof Justices T S Sivagnanam and S Ananthi said they do not agree with the submissions of petitioner Muthukaruppan’s counselthat the petition was filed by his client in his private capacity and he has every right to withdraw it.

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Saturday directed all the parties involved in the
Avaniapuram custodial death case to file their counter affidavits.
The court had taken up the matter suo motu after it was alleged the father of the victim was
coerced to withdraw his petition seeking a CBI probe into the incident that took place in 2019.
