Quota not followed for powerful postings:Thirumavalavan

Madurai: Reservation system is followed only for third and fourthgrade jobs, while the same is not followed for powerful postings,VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan has said.
Speaking at a protest organised by the advocates in front of theMadurai district court campus on Monday, demanding equalrepresentation in appointment of judges to high courts,Thirumavalavan said that for powerful postings such as professors,vice-chancellors, directors in higher education institutions noreservation is followed. Reservation is also not being followed inpromotions. There is no explanation given by anyone as to whyreservations are not followed for powerful positions.
He said that reservation is not followed in appointment of judges to high courts. "It has been a long time demandto follow social justice in appointment of judges in high court. There is also a need to follow social justice inappointments of judges to the Supreme Court. Even after 75 years of independence, 90% of the posts is occupiedby a particular community in the Supreme Court. This shows that the Constitution is not followed and only‘manusmriti' is being followed. The collegium system is tightly packed to ensure that no one could interfere withthe appointment of judges," said Thirumavalavan.
Addressing reporters later, Thirumavalavan said that parties which believe in democracy have decided to conducta rally and public meeting for religious harmony but the city police and corporation have denied permission.

He ruled out any dissent in the DMK coalition and affirmed that VCK is very much inside the coalition withinwhich they raise their concerns. "VCK is part of DMK coalition and it has played a role in bringing the likemindedparties into it.
On three-language policy, he said that VCK's stand is that it should not be imposed on any state in the country.
