An analysis of custodial deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past four years show the majority of victims belong to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes and from poor economic backgrounds. Many were arrested for petty crimes.

History sheeter shot dead by TN cops, second killing in a week

Police have gunned down Subash Chandra Bose, a history sheeter, allegedly in an act of self-defence.

Days after the alleged “encounter” of a chain snatcher in Chennai, a history sheeter has been shot dead by police in Madurai. Extrajudicial killings are often described as “encounters” by police. The deceased, identified as Subash Chandra Bose, was killed on the night of March 31. Police have again claimed it an act of self-defence.

Pudukkottai activist murder: Cops deny protest seeking justice for Jagaber Ali

HRDA has sought a transfer of the Jagaber Ali murder case to the CB-CID Special Police Department under the supervision of the High Court and compensation for his family.

The Pudukkottai town police have denied permission for a protest organised by Human Rights Defenders’ Alert (HRDA) demanding justice for the murder of whistleblower K Jagaber Ali. The protest, scheduled for Saturday, March 15, was rejected on grounds of location constraints.
