CHENNAI: The CB-CID police probing the anti-Sterlite activist R S Mugilan missing case on Thursday informed the Madras high court that they have got “important lead” in the case.

Additional public prosecutor R Prathap Kumar made the submission before a division bench of Justice M M Sundaresh and M Nirmal Kumar while producing the status report of the probe in a sealed cover.

Tuticorin: A year after 13 anti-Sterlite protesters in Tuticorin were killed in police firing, civil rights activists have accused the government of doing little other than providing Rs 20 lakh compensation and a bottom rung government job to the victims’ kin. Not one government official has been held accountable so far for the incident and the government’s disinterest in providing rehabilitation to the devastated families is appalling, say activists.

Human rights activist and executive director of People’s Watch Henry Tiphagne, who was also in Tuticorin on Tuesday, told TOI that there was total violation of human rights in the police firing. He alleged that the people who shot at people were not in police uniform and that no formal procedure was followed before the firing.
