Vignesh, a 25-year-old who earned his living by taking tourists for horse rides at the Marina Beach, Chennai died in police custody at G5 Secretariat Colony Police Station. This incident is alleged to have taken place on the night of April 18, 2022 and the death in the early hours of April 19, 2022 morning. As per the autopsy report, Vignesh was found to have 13 injury marks (bruises) on his body. Six policemen have been arrested by the Crime Branch-CID police on May 07, 2022.

The Crime Branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police on Saturday arrested five policemen and one Home Guard for their involvement in the death of Vignesh in custody here on April 19, police sources said.

Acting on the instructions of Director-General of Police (CB-CID) M. Shakeel Akhter, a special team interrogated the police personnel who were on duty on April 18 and 19 and took them into custody, sources in the investigating agency said.

Chennai: Nine police personnel, including inspector Senthil Kumar, and sub-inspector of Pugazhum Perumal police station appeared before the CB-CID investigation officer on Friday. Executive director of People’s Watch Henri Tiphagne claimed that the police were still trying to tamper the case. DGP transferred the case to CB-CID after sub-inspector, police constable, and home guard personnel were suspended.




The case, earlier registered under sections of suspicious death, was modified to a murder case after the post-mortem found 13 injuries on the body
