Chennai: The CB CID sleuths probing the 'disappearance' of environmental activist R.S. Mugilan, who involved himself actively in anti-Sterlite protests and other pro-people movements, has informed the Madras High Court on Thursday that they have got vital clues in the case.

A status report on the ongoing investigation was filed before the court by the probe team, even as Mugilan's kin and opposition parties questioned the credibility of the probe which confined itself to 'harassing' those close to Mugilan instead of carrying out a credible inquiry.

After being apprised of the progress made by the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) in tracing the whereabouts of environmental activist T. Mugilan alias Shanmugam who went missing from Chennai on February 15, the Madras High Court on Thursday granted three more weeks to the police to crack the case.

முகிலன் வழக்கில் துப்பு கிடைத்துள்ளதாக சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தில் சிபிசிஐடி அறிக்கை தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளது.

ஸ்டெர்லைட் ஆலைக்கு எதிரான போராட்டம், கூடங்குளம் அணு உலை எதிர்ப்பு போராட்டம் என பல்வேறு போராட்டங்களின் முன்னணியில் இருந்து செயல்பட்டவர் சமூக ஆர்வலர் முகிலன். இவர் கடந்த பிப்ரவரி 15-ஆம் தேதி சென்னையில் செய்தியாளர்களை சந்தித்தார். அப்போது, தூத்துக்குடி ஸ்டெர்லைட் துப்பாக்கிச் சூடு சம்பவம் தொடர்பாக ஆவணப்படத்தை வெளியிட்டார்.

Ask why the probe agency did not interrogate police officials

Rights activists have questioned why the CB-CID did not examine senior police officials, whose alleged complicity in the firing on anti-Sterlite protesters in Thoothukudi was exposed by Mugilan hours before his mysterious disappearance.

Pointing out that over 200 people were examined by the investigating agency, the activist’s son Kaar Muhilan said all those questioned by the police were either his family’s friends or well-wishers.

சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் முகிலன் மாயமானது தொடர்பாக 148 பேரிடம் விசாரணை நடத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதாக சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தில் சிபிசிஐடி தகவல் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. முகிலன் விவகாரம் தொடர்பாக அறிக்கை தாக்கல் செய்ய அவகாசம் வேண்டும் என சிபிசிஐடி கோரிய நிலையில், முகிலனை மீட்கக்கோரி ஹென்றி திபேன் தாக்கல் செய்த ஆட்கொணர்வு மனு மார்ச் 18க்கு ஒத்திவைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தூத்துக்குடி துப்பாக்கி சூடு தொடர்பான வீடியோவை வெளியிட்ட சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் முகிலன் மாயமான வழக்கில் இதுவரை 148 பேரிடம் விசாரணை நடத்தியுள்ளதாக ஐகோர்ட்டில் சி.பி.சி.ஐ.டி. போலீசார் தகவல் தெரிவித்தனர்.

சென்னை ஐகோர்ட்டில், மனித உரிமைகள் ஆர்வலர் ஹென்றி டிபேன் என்பவர் தாக்கல் செய்துள்ள ஆட்கொணர்வு மனுவில், ‘தூத்துக்குடியில் ஸ்டெர்லைட் ஆலைக்கு எதிராக பொதுமக்கள் கடந்த ஆண்டு மே 22-ந்தேதி போராட்டம் நடத்தினர். அப்போது கண்மூடித்தனமாக போலீசார் நடத்திய துப்பாக்கி சூட்டில் 13 பேர் பலியானார்கள்.
