MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Monday directed the CB-CID to complete the investigation in Avaniyapuram custodial death case by the end of January 2022. A Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice M Duraiswamy gave the direction in a suo motu petition filed over suspicious withdrawal of the custodial death petition by the parents of the victim before the court in 2019.

Madurai: The Madras high court on Monday asked the CB-CID to take steps to complete the investigation into the Avaniyapuram custodial death case by January 2022.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and justice M Duraiswamy asked the agency to expedite the investigation, after the state informed the court that the CB-CID probe was still underway in this case.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday directed the member-secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLA) to instruct the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) to visit central prisons, open-air prisons and special prisons for women to collect the details of convicts who had not filed an appeal against their conviction.

Head constable is a key witness in custodial deaths case




The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Sub-Collector of Thoothukudi not to pass any final orders pursuant to the proceedings initiated against anti-Sterlite protesters under Sections 107 and 111 of the CrPC.

Madurai: Observing that it is the fundamental right of the people to protest in a peaceful manner, the Madurai bench of the Madras high court has directed the sub-divisional magistrate/ sub-collector of Tuticorin not to pass any final orders in the proceedings initiated under Sections 107 and 111 CrPC against anti-Sterlite protesters. It further directed the police not to issue summons to the protesters.
