The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Saturday ordered a CB-CID probe into the death of
Silambarasan, a history sheeter from Thanjavur district. His body was found floating in a tank in
Kumbakonam on April 10.

Hearing the plea filed by K. Valli, the mother of the deceased, Justice G. Ilangovan ordered a CBCID
probe into the incident taking into account the fact that the mother blamed the police for the
death of her son. It was said that he jumped into the tank to evade arrest.

The judges observed that Muthukaruppan had filed a petition seeking justice for his son.

CHENNAI: Donations from abroad for NGOs in Tamil Nadu have dropped by 90%, pushing the state to fourth in the country in attracting funding under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA). This has adversely impacted activities of many groups largely dependent on such contributions, say activists.

TN has the most number of NGOs and associations registered under the FCRA in the country and 3,262 of the 6,485 NGOs eligible to receive funds are currently active.

Produce people who convinced man to withdraw case: HC

Madurai: The Madras high court has directed the Madurai city commissioner of police to secure and produce four people who were allegedly responsible for withdrawal of a case filed by a man in connection with the custodial death of his son at Avaniyapuram police station in Madurai district.

பின் மனுதாரர் தரப்பில் வாபஸ் பெற்றதால், தனி நீதிபதி தள்ளுபடி செய்தார்.இது தொடர்பாக உயர்நீதிமன்றக் கிளை பதிவாளருக்கு (நீதித்துறை) ஒரு கடிதம் வந்தது. அதில், 'சம்பந்தப்பட்ட போலீசாரின் மிரட்டலால் மனுதாரர் வழக்கை வாபஸ் பெற்றுள்ளார். வழக்கு விசாரணை சுதந்திரமாக நடக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை. தகுந்த நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்,' என குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருந்தது.
