Dalit Young Lawyers Mentoring Program 2011

Period: One Year residential program with a monthly stipend

Place: At People's Watch's national headquarters in Madurai

Qualification: Advocates enrolled within a period of three years

Candidature: Must be a person born in a community recognized as Scheduled Caste under the Constitution but may belong to any faith (religion). Women candidates will be given preference.

It is also foreseen that this mentoring program shall include the young lawyers working as a junior lawyer under an eminent senior lawyer on criminal side with over 25 years of experience with the aim of providing the young lawyers the professional ambience of molding them gradually as capacitated criminal trial lawyers capable of offering a higher level of professional competence to their clients. Of course the mentoring shall also include the providing them of adequate knowledge and skills in human rights and provide them a sound human rights perspective to work better for the empowerment of the Dalit Community.

Eligible Candidates can apply with an introduction letter from Bar Associations and reputed NGOs. Human Rights Defenders and Dalit activists can also individually refer suitable young Dalit lawyers for this program. A PG Diploma in Human Rights by the Institute of Human Rights Education of People's Watch will be provided.

Last date for the completed applications to reach the office of People's Watch will be 10th December 2010.
